Silence and Speaking

Ahum.

Again: ahum.

(Sound of man clearing his throat.)

A deep breath.

A flexing of vocal cords.

“It has been some time back,” he said. Swallows.

Clearly not used to speaking in public, again.

Sure, the voices in his head spoke. Loudly.

But then again, even they somehow silenced themselves – not getting any feedback was too boring for the entire family, acquaintances and complete strangers habituating my head to stay engaged with me. That part of me that silently observes. Usually with a grin, especially when drama has the entire village in my head in its grips.

Stories.

And silence.

They’re yin and yang.
